Enhanced Viewing and Access Options Highlight Changes at the 2017 Grand Prix
DETROIT, Mich. (May 16, 2017) – As the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear draws closer, there are many new opportunities for fans to connect and enjoy the three-day motorsports festival on Belle Isle, June 2-4, 2017.
Anyone interested in purchasing tickets and learning more about the event can access the new mobile-friendly Grand Prix website - www.DetroitGP.com. The fresh look for DetroitGP.com allows for easier usage both on desktop and mobile devices, and fans can easily access all of the great content the Grand Prix has to offer. This includes news from the Grand Prix and the racing series that compete on Belle Isle, key transportation and parking information, the full race weekend schedule of events, an updated track map of the race venue, historical event information and much more.
With no public parking available on Belle Isle during race weekend, transportation is always a key area for fans and the Grand Prix is providing another option this year to go along with its popular and effective park and shuttle system. The event has teamed up with leading ride share providers Lyft and Uber to offer a ride share drop off point at the Detroit Naval Armory, located just over the MacArthur Bridge to Belle Isle. Anyone taking advantage of the ride share service will be dropped off in the area along Jefferson Avenue and be shuttled onto the island at no additional cost.
The Grand Prix listened to feedback from its fans after the 2016 event and made some key changes to enhance the at-track experience in 2017. Fans wanted more access and new seating options and the Grand Prix will deliver. For the first time in several years, Grand Prix goers will be able to get up close and personal with the one of most iconic attractions on Belle Isle – the Scott Fountain. Anyone with a paddock pass at the event will be able to access the beautiful fountain, which will be running for the first time in 2017 on race weekend, thanks to DTE Energy. Visitors will be able to take photos and enjoy the beauty of the fountain, which was first constructed on Belle Isle in 1925.
A Prix-mium seating area is also new to the Grand Prix this year. Located at the top of Grandstand 1, the Prix-mium seating offers fans a padded seat and more leg room in the bleacher area to enhance their viewing experience. Fans also told the Grand Prix that they wanted to see the great racing on the long back straightaway at the Raceway at Belle Isle Park. So in 2017 fans will be able to access the new Grand Prix backstretch grandstand along one of the fastest portions of the 2.3-mile track. Anyone with a ticket to the Grand Prix will be able to view the action from this grandstand at no additional cost.
The popular Meijer Fan Zone will also feature a new area to go along with all the great attractions that fans have enjoyed in the past at the Grand Prix. Club Patron is sure to be a premium spot in the Fan Zone offering seating options, closed circuit TV to watch all of the action on track and a great selection of adult beverages, including Patron tequila, throughout race weekend.
“We’re excited to offer some new features and activities for our fans to enjoy at this year’s Grand Prix,” said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “We received some great feedback from our most loyal fans and we were able to take several of their ideas and make them a reality this year with more access to the beautiful Scott Fountain, more viewing options and easier ways to connect with the Grand Prix both online with our new website and in person with our new ride share program.”
