Volunteers Still Needed for the 2018 Detroit Grand Prix
DETROIT, Mich. (April 19, 2018) - The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is looking for a few hundred more volunteers to help host one of the most popular and positive events of the summer in the Motor City.
The Grand Prix returns to Belle Isle Park June 1-3 and the annual event that helps wave the green flag on summertime wouldn't be possible without the hard-working volunteers of the Detroit Grand Prix Association (DGPA), who serve as ambassadors of our region, Belle Isle and the Grand Prix.
With a goal of reaching 1,000 members by race weekend, DGPA volunteers help with virtually every aspect of the Grand Prix, working as circuit marshals, ushers, hospitality shuttle services, on-track services and more during the three-day festival on Belle Isle. The Grand Prix will feature world-class racing, live music, family fun, food, interactive displays, games and more for the expected 100,000 fans that will visit the Raceway at Belle Isle Park during race weekend. The DGPA currently has nearly 800 members for 2018, but the Grand Prix's official volunteer organization is still looking for a couple of hundred more dedicated and community-minded people to help host this year's event. Lear Corporation is the proud sponsor of the Grand Prix volunteer program.
Those interested in becoming a member of the DGPA to volunteer for the 2018 Grand Prix should visit www.DetroitGP.com and select the "Volunteer" link.
"Our DGPA volunteers are the best in the business and every year they raise the bar higher for the Grand Prix, Belle Isle and our entire region," said Bud Denker, Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. "The Detroit Grand Prix Association and its members are so important to our event and we appreciate everything they do to help us host this world-class race weekend every year."
Volunteer areas that remain open for the 2018 Grand Prix include circuit marshals, ushers, food services, on track services, customer relations ticket scanners and more.
Building on the success of an enhanced scheduling program last year, the Grand Prix is offering more flexibility and reduced shift times for new volunteers in 2018. New members can choose between one, two or three-day experiences at the Grand Prix, although most departments are looking for volunteers to work one shift on both Saturday and Sunday of race weekend.
To join the DGPA and become a volunteer for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, members pay a $20 annual fee. This fee covers a number of volunteer benefits including a membership patch, commemorative lapel pin and access to pre- and post-race parties for DGPA members. The Grand Prix provides each volunteer a race weekend credential, official uniform shirts and hat, free off-island parking, a shuttle to the island and lunch every day of race weekend.
