Detroit Lions Players Named Saturday Grand Marshals at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear
DETROIT, Mich. (June 1, 2024) – Three of the Detroit Lions bright young stars will add Grand Marshal “grit” to “Sports Car Saturday” at the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. After helping the Lions produce their most successful season in more than 30 years, defensive lineman Alim McNeill, linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez and running back Zonovan Knight will be honored as Grand Marshals today on the Streets of the Motor City.
McNeill, Rodriguez and Knight will tour the Fifth Third Paddock as they meet some of the stars of the Grand Prix this afternoon. The players will also get a chance to tackle the unique 1.7 mile, nine-turn Grand Prix circuit on the Streets of Downtown Detroit with an IMSA Hot Lap Experience before participating in pre-race ceremonies on the Autotrader Winner’s Circle, positioned high above Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Pit Lane. The Detroit Lions trio will then deliver the official command of “Drivers, To Your Cars” before the first race of the Grand Prix weekend – the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic – featuring the GTP PRO and Grand Touring Prototype classes of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (Saturday, June 1 at 3 pm ET on USA Network).
“The Detroit Lions captivated the City of Detroit this year and fans from all over the world embraced the team and their journey through the NFL Playoffs,” said Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “We couldn’t be more excited to help celebrate the team’s success at the Grand Prix as we welcome Alim, Malcolm and Zonovan as our Saturday Grand Marshals in the Motor City.”
After being selected as the 72nd overall pick by the Lions in the 2021 NFL Draft, McNeill has emerged as one of the team’s top defensive players, producing 112 tackles and eight quarterback sacks over the past three seasons. Rodriguez was selected in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft and he became one of the Lions’ young leaders by starting 15 games as a rookie. His story captured the attention of fans during the team’s feature season of “Hard Knocks” on HBO. Knight recently re-signed with the Lions after he joined the team in 2023.
McNeill, Rodriguez and Knight were part of the Lions historic run last season as the team reached the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1992.
The 34th Grand Prix event in the City’s history will return to the Streets of Downtown Detroit circuit that runs along the award-winning Detroit Riverwalk, May 31-June 2, 2024. With new viewing options and entertainment packages, fans can purchase tickets at www.DetroitGP.com/Tickets or through the event’s Ticket Hotline at 866-464-PRIX (7749).
