The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear is focused on being a positive force in our community. Since the event returned to Detroit in 2007, the Grand Prix has embraced our roots in the Motor City and the event continues to engage with local students, families, businesses and community groups to provide experiences that help educate and enrich the lives of Metropolitan Detroit residents.

Some of these experiences include:

Bringing Grand Prix drivers and race cars to local schools
Hosting groups of students on race weekend to go behind the scenes with professional race teams
Working with NXG Youth Motorsports to introduce Detroit students to karting
Partnering with College for Creative Studies students to create the annual Official Grand Prix Poster
Educating students on STEM initiatives through motorsports
Focusing on local vendors and businesses as Grand Prix partners

The students of Cass Technical High School got an up close view of the Detroit Grand Prix INDYCAR and Cadillac V-Series technology in 2019 during a visit from IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Cadillac driver Pipo Derani, who helped announced the return of Comerica Bank Free Prix Day on Belle Isle.

Focused on strengthening its roots in the local community with this summer’s return to the Streets of Detroit, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear proudly unveiled its INDYCAR Art Installation powered by PPG

Nexgeneracers (NXG) Detroit-area students brought the skills and lessons learned in the classroom to the track at Cass Technical High School.

Defending IndyCar champion and 2022 Detroit GP winner Will Power joined students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan to unveil mural designs near the finish line to honor community partnerships.

College for Creative Studies student Adrian Keeler unveiled the official event poster for the 2023 Detroit Grand Prix.

2019 Detroit Grand Prix race winner Josef Newgarden and his “Bus Bros” Team Penske teammate Scott McLaughlin were in Detroit for a full day of activities to commemorate the countdown to the 2023 race weekend.

Detroit Mayor Duggan joined Penske Corporation President and Detroit Grand Prix Chairman Bud Denker, city officials, community partners and residents to celebrate the grand opening of the new community center at A.B. Ford Park in Jefferson Chalmers along the Detroit east riverfront.

Following a very successful pilot program in 2021, NXG Detroit expanded its outreach and its presence in the community in 2023, thanks to the continued support from program partner Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Select drivers racing in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear competed alongside Detroit-area sports stars and members of the media in a unique Fowling Challenge. Fowling has its roots in racing and in metro Detroit.

Drivers Felix Rosenqvist and Santino Ferrucci served as guests of honor for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear “Accelerate Detroit” Partner Summit.
