Where do I park?
Guests are not permitted to drive their personal vehicles onto Belle Isle. Wheelchair accessible shuttle service is provided from the downtown Detroit Grand Prix parking locations (Beaubien Place Garage, surface lots east of the Renaissance Center and the River East Garage.) Please reference the Transportation Plan located on our website.
Do the shuttle vehicles accommodate wheelchairs?
Wheelchair accessible motor coaches and minibuses have been contracted to be of service to mobility challenged guests who must be transported in wheelchairs. Each vehicle holds two wheelchairs at one time.
How often do the wheelchair accessible shuttles run?
Several of the motor coach shuttle busses will be equipped with wheelchair lifts and will run continuously from the downtown Detroit Grand Prix parking locations.
What if I need assistance once I arrive at Belle Isle?
We want your experience to be as stress-free as possible; our Accessibility Ambassadors will meet guests as they arrive on the island. Any first-aid (medical) requests, shelter needs or additional assistance including transportation to seats should be discussed at that time. If you cannot find an Ambassador, head to the Accessibility Ambassador tent located at the Shuttle Transportation Center and identified by the ADA Compliant symbol.
Is there wheelchair accessible seating at the event?
Reserved “ADA” seat locations in Grandstands 1 and 2 are accessible by wheelchair. The viewing platform in front of General Admission Grandstand 10 is also wheelchair accessible.
What if I am not in a wheelchair but I am unable to climb grandstand steps to my seat?
Purchasing “accessible seating” does not require the guest to be in a wheelchair; the seating area is reserved for guests who have difficulty climbing stairs. The seating is accessed by a ramp on the side of the grandstand and padded folding chairs are provided on the flat platform located in the front of the grandstand.
How will I get to my seat location? What if I have a hospitality guest pass?
Grandstand 1 and 2 ticketholders can proceed to their seat locations once they enter the admission gate; these seat locations are in close proximity to the gate.
Getting to the DTE Front Stretch Chalets and Citizens Bank Trackside Chalets requires crossing over the track, either by a pedestrian bridge or at a street level crossing only when there is no on-track activity. From the shuttle drop-off location, proceed to the nearby Accessibility Ambassador tent for instructions on how to navigate to these locations or to request golf cart transport.
For hospitality guests, the first floor of each chalet is ADA accessible via ramps and ADA restrooms will be available nearby. The second floor of the chalets unfortunately is not ADA accessible.
Is the entire venue wheelchair accessible?
The entire venue is wheelchair accessible, and pathways are primarily concrete or asphalt, however some pathways have ramps and depending on the weather may be a bit challenging. If at any time you feel uncomfortable, please seek assistance from a volunteer.
For guests who are unable to climb stairs of the crossover bridges, street level track crossings are scheduled during designated times each day and priority will be given to physically challenged individuals during those times. Accessibility Ambassadors stationed on either side of the track will be available to address any questions or needs. Be sure to allow extra time if you will be using the street level crossings.
Are there wheelchair accessible restrooms?
There are wheelchair accessible restrooms located throughout the venue.
Where can I find shelter?
There are three dedicated tents available on the island; one at the west end of the Shuttle Transportation Center and one on either side of the street level track crossing area between Turns 2 and 3. There are also existing shelters where shade, water and wheelchair accessible restrooms are available.
When I am ready to leave the venue, how do I get the wheelchair accessible shuttle to pick me up?
When exiting the venue, head straight to the Shuttle Transportation Center near the Accessibility Ambassador tent identified by the ADA symbol. Wheelchair accessible motor coaches that stop at each downtown shuttle stop will be available and run continuously throughout the day.
